Didactics of Biology 1400-013DBSPP
‘Didactic of biology’ course integrates contents of biology and related sciences together with their didactics. It consolidates basic principles of pupils teaching in biology lessons. Exercises shows wide range of strategies, methods and forms of teaching, which aids proper planning, implementing and evaluate of school lessons on the third and fourth stage of school education (gymnasium and high school). Knowledge of teaching methods and forms allows to easily apply them in real school lessons, awaken interest of pupils and inspiring them to actively protect natural environment. Exercises include observing and conducting lessons by student, which can take place in the classroom or in the field, by means of valid methods, teaching techniques, forms and teaching aids.
Exercises in ‘Didactic of biology’ will be implemented according to following issues: analysis of general education core curriculum for the third stage of education, developing subject curriculum for secondary school based on core curriculum, the correct arranging of lesson objectives, learning strategies, methods, teaching techniques and forms, creating own base of profession by teaching aids design, evaluate the education process, developing detailed lesson plans, conduct educational projects for groups, developing user manuals for laboratory exercises, pupil preparation for biology knowledge competition.

Learning outcomes
Student: knows the current education core curriculum, knows the didactics concepts in general and subject in particular; knows framework of teaching-learning process; knows basic diagnostic techniques to design and conduct pedagogical research in practice and tools for evaluation of education; is able to plan and effectively carry out the lessons; have the ability to use various forms of education, teamwork, motivation to learn natural sciences also in future careers; can transform academic knowledge into practice in school; is aware of the ethical diagnosis and evaluation of pupils; is aware of importance to responsible and professional preparation to his job.
Assessment criteria
Attendance to more than 80% of meetings
Passed all the written assays and homeworks
Active attendance on workshops and meetings, showing communication and social skills /competences.
Practical placement
Pedagogical practices are conducted in secondary schools in the number of 15+60 hours. It fully prepares to work in school and entitles to work as a teacher of biology in those school.
