Mineral resources of the seas and oceans 1300-WSMO201
During these lectures, students will familiarize themselves with the following topics: origins and structure of the oceans, how the dynamic processes in the lithoshere and Earth mantle evoke the movement of continent plates and creation of new megastructures in the oceans (rifts, grabens) and the role of these processes in the forming of mineral deposits. Additionally, history of oceans’ exploration and the development of marine mining technology will be discussed.. . Students will also learn about the genesis of mineral deposits, their distribution and anomalies as well as extraction possibilities. Lectures are include numerous photos and other visual aids, students can see the samples of nodules and solid massive sulphides up closely,. Finally, students will learn about the legal bases and rules concerning exploration and exploitation of marine minerals as well as the harmful influence of marine mining for marine fauna.

Learning outcomes
Students will gain a better understanding of the mineral security of the world and the meaning of the marine deposits in global commodities’ balance. Additionally, they will learn about the potential danger connected to extraction of marine minerals deposits. They will also learn about the role of the state in the global mineral market, especially in relation to marine deposits. They will also learn about the origins of marine minerals and types of mineral commodities present in the ocean.
