Workshop in geomechanics 1300-WPGMP-GES
During the classes, participants will become familiar with selected methods for testing the geomechanical properties of rocks in accordance with standard testing procedures:
1) PN-EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018-02: General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories,
2) PN-EN 1926:2007 Natural stone test methods - Determination of uniaxial compressive strength,
3) PN-G-04302:1997. Compact rocks -- Determination of the tensile strength by compression method,
4) PN-G-04303:1997 Skały zwięzłe – Compact rocks -- Determination of the compressive strength with the use of shaped samples.
The workshop topics include:
1. General information about the quality of laboratory testing procedures (2 hours).
2. Basic determinations of physical properties (4 hours):
- geometric measurements of test samples,
- air-dry mass determination,
- determination of bulk density,
- statistical analysis of parameters.
3. Ultrasonic non-destructive experiments:
- research methods and measurement of longitudinal wave velocity in several directions. (6 hours)
- interpretation of the results. (2 hours.)
- statistical analysis of variability. (1 hour)
- evaluation of the anisotropy of rock material. (1 hour)
4. Preparation of samples for strength tests (2 hours).
5. Configuration of press Controls for resistance studies to uniaxial compression and Brazilian method tensile strength, standards and experiment procedures, experiment process and interpretation of the obtained results. (6 hours).
6. Preparation of reports on the performed tests. (6 hours.)

- applies advanced techniques and research tools in resistance experiments in a uniaxial stress field (P2A_U01),
- conducts ultrasonic experiments (P2A_U04),
- applies informatics techniques to determine static and dynamic elasticity constants (P2A_U05),
- interprets resistance parameters obtained from tests in a uniaxial and triaxial stress field (P2A_U06),
- understands the need to broaden knowledge and competence in geomechanical studies (P2A_K01).
