Advanced mineralogy 1300-WMNZAP
Raw data from electron probe microanalyser (EPMA) processing. Mineralogical databases. Following mineral groups will be discussed, including their structures, variation of chemical composition and some petrogenetic features:
• olivine group minerals;
• plagioclase series;
• garnets;
• pyroxenes;
• amphiboles
In mentioned mineral groups the following issues will be emphasized as well:
• recalculation of chemical analysis in to crystallochemical formula;
• isomorphic substitutions. End-members calculation;
• graphical presentation of chemical composition variations.
Additionally, based on examples of the following groups of minerals, specific methods of crystallochemical formula recalculations will be discussed:
• spinels;
• micas;
• apatite group minerals
• epidote group minerals

Learning outcomes
Based on chemical analysis of mineral student will have been able to:
• properly classify main rock-forming as well some accessory minerals;
• recalculate chemical analysis in to crystallochemical formulas;
• properly graphically illustrate chemical composition variability;
• draw and discuss petrogenetic conclusions in some rock-forming minerals.
Assessment criteria
The following will count for the final grade: (I) end-term test, (II) project, (III) continuous assessment during the classes.
