Basic assumptions of spa treatment in Poland 1300-WHPLU
The lecture comprises general and specific topics.
The general topics include:
- Basic concepts and definitions related to mineral, medicinal and thermal waters and principles of their chemical and balneological classification.
- History of spa treatment and studies on mineral waters in Poland.
The specific topics provide an overview of individual spa towns in Poland in terms of their geographical location, history of the town and people related to it, type and method of using the curative waters, fun facts and tourist attractions.

Learning outcomes
After completing the course a student:
- Defines the concept of mineral, curative and thermal water.
- Qualifies a type to water according to chemical and balneological classification based on its chemical analysis.
- Indicates Polish spa town on a map.
- Distinguishes spa towns according to the type of curative waters.
Assessment criteria
Attendance at lectures will be checked. Final grade will depend on the results of a written examination that will comprise a dozen or so questions on the topics presented during the course.
