Karst hydrogeology 1300-WHKR201
Literature review. Definition and classification of karst and the conditions of its formation, major speleothem forms. Hydrology and hydrogeology of fissured-karstic limestone terrains and their lithology. Hydrogeologic structures. Karst evolution whitin the hydrogeologic cycle, the dependence of water drainage on climate conditions. Karst flows and springs. Theoretical fundamentals of speleogenetic processes. Chemistry of speleogenetic processes and cave waters; chemical denudation, ions flow, carbonate corrosion by waters. Methods of hydrogeological research of fissured-karstic bedrock (hydrogeological calculations, balance studies, marker studies, estimating water age in karstic systems, colour-staining, exploration and mapping of caves. Hydrochemical and physical properties of water and water quality hazards specific to kart areas; protection of karst aquifers.
