Hydrogeology and field diagnostics of urbanized areas 1300-WHDTZP
Classes begin with identifying and discussing the research problem, i.e., defining the objective, scope, and formulating questions and hypotheses. This is followed by a literature review and identifying sources of geological information and complementary data from publicly available databases. The collected materials undergo critical evaluation, and their interpretation allows for the creation of an initial, conceptual hydrogeological model of the area.
Before going into the field, work is digitized by building a GIS template as a mobile offline app, equipped with ready-made forms with drop-down lists and automatic GPS coordinate recording. The system prepared in this way is used to collect the necessary information during direct in situ field observations and measurements.
Upon returning from the field, raw data and archival materials undergo a processing and QA/QC quality control procedure, consisting of database cleaning, elimination of gross errors, standardizing coordinate systems, and calibration to the current topography of the area. Next, data processing methods and geostatistics are applied, where the selection of appropriate interpolation algorithms allows for converting point measurements into continuous surfaces, ensuring reliable spatial visualization of the investigated characteristics.
The finale of the work is the creation of the structure of a synthetic expert report, the design of which reflects formal-legal and logical standards. The completed solution to the problem is presented synthetically using visualization tools: cross-sections, block diagrams, and synthetic maps, used to clearly present recommendations and defend the project.
