Geological record of natural disasters 1300-WGZKP
The first part of the lecture embraces an introduction to catastrophism and its historical background. Discussed are methodological constrains of the studies on modern and fossil catastrophic natural phenomena. In further parts of the lecture particular phenomena are presented in more detail, such as: volcanics eruptions, earthquakes, tsunamis, floods and others. In each case modern and fossil examples are presented and compared.

The student learns about the nature and mechanism of natural catastrophic phenomena (natural disasters). The student learns about the causes of such phenomena and about the potential of preservation of their record in the sediments.
