Digital Methods and Software in Hydrogeological Research and Analysis 1300-WCMBH
The practicum aims to introduce students to the following topics:
- Numerical modeling of filtration fields, including:
- Finite difference method, boundary problem, flat filtration model.
- 3D filtration model in a heterogeneous medium.
- Excavation dewatering simulation.
- Model assessment of groundwater resource changes due to surface water damming.
Quantitative analysis of empirical data using artificial intelligence.
Application of software enabling the creation and editing of vector files for hydrogeological data visualization (2D models, 3D models).

Learning outcomes in the area of knowledge:
K_W01 - Understands physical and geological phenomena occurring in nature.
K_W03 - Understands the connection between geological sciences and mathematical, physical, chemical, and biological sciences.
K_W04 - Knows and understands the methods of determining hydrogeological parameters of an aquifer and the chemistry of groundwater.
K_W14 - Knows the IT techniques and numerical methods necessary for solving geophysical and geological problems, knows selected programming languages, operating systems, and software used in geophysics and geology.
K_W19 - Has knowledge in the field of planning research for modeling purposes, knows the principles of schematizing geological conditions for modeling needs.
Learning outcomes in the area of skills:
K_U10 - Can identify aquifer levels, assess their groundwater resources, and determine the physico-chemical parameters of the water.
K_U12 - Can critically analyze the results of measurements, observations, or theoretical calculations along with a quantitative assessment of the accuracy of the results.
K_U25 - Has skills in operating and using graphic and computational programs.
K_U26 - To solve a research problem or project and interpret it, correctly selects the data model. Can use tools in vector and raster models, and can convert between these data models.
Learning outcomes in the area of social competences:
K_K01 - Understands the need for continuous improvement of professional competences and finding new technologies to solve research problems by familiarizing with professional literature and legal acts.
K_K02 - Is ready to expand and deepen knowledge, being aware of the dangers of obtaining information from unverified sources, including the Internet.
K_K06 - Is ready to cooperate and work in a group, taking on various roles. Cooperates in thematic groups in the field, laboratory, and during the development of research results.

Assessment criteria
The assessment will be based on an individual project prepared by the student, using the knowledge gained during the practicum, evaluated for completeness and correctness.
Attendance at classes (two absences allowed), submission of a project based on knowledge gained during the practicum.
