Famous paleontological localites 1300-PSSP301
Fossil sites known as Fossil-Lagerstätten are special evidences of past life. Konzentrat-Lagerstätten are known for sheer abundance of specimens (e.g. bones or shells). Whereas, in Konservat-Lagerstätten fossils of unusual quality are present, e.g. articulated skeletons or skeletons with soft tissues preserved. The special attention is paid to Konservat- Lagerstätten as they show much more complete picture of ancient biota and communities they lived in, in comparison to common fossil sites. Each of these exceptional sites was characterized by different depositional environment. Also taphonomic processes, which allowed tissues of low fossilization potential to be preserved as fossils, were various. Reconstruction of both these factors along with specimens description allows to obtain a complete picture of these exceptional palaeontological sites.
