Major subjects: causes of hominid bipedality; characteristics of the earliest hominids (Australopithecus and Paranthropus); non-standard concepts of the early evolution of man; systematic position of "Homo" habilis; migrations and diversity of Homo erectus; characteristics and phylogeny of the Neanderthals; "Out of Africa" hypothesis – palaeontological and molecular arguments; early technologies; culture and art of the Cro-Magnon people; the development of brain; behaviour, consciousness, speech and language of early people; the origin of man – philosophical aspect.

Learning outcomes
The participant of the proseminarium acquires knowledge on the phylogeny, evolution, migration and behaviour of the early hominids and the genus Homo, and develops skills in proper presenting of the scientific questions using digital equipment.
Assessment criteria
Oral presentation. Evaluation concerns: language, quality of presentation, knowledge of the selected subject.
