Melioration and drainage of urbanized areas 1300-OMOTZP-GGG
The purpose of the practical course is to familiarize students with:
- hydrogeological conditions of performing drainage,
- classification and division of drainage of construction sites, needs and cases of their application,
- methods of foundation excavation drainage and calculation models,
- administrative procedures defining the necessity of preparing water law certificates,
- calculation scheme and design of wellpoint drainage on the example of calculating the inflow volume to a linear excavation divided into sections,
- calculation scheme and design of well drainage in options with and without excavation casing,
- possibilities of excavation protection with sheet pile walls or diaphragm walls and assessment of inflow volume to a construction excavation,
- types of sewage systems and methods of transport route drainage,
- designing infiltration wells and retention-infiltration devices.

After completing the course (lecture and exercises), the student:
In the area of knowledge:
K_W02 - knows the problems and research methods in the field of natural sciences to an advanced degree,
K_W04 - has knowledge in the field of water management,
K_W12 - recognizes models describing the geological environment.
In the area of skills:
K_U01 - performs and describes a simple research task individually and in a team,
K_U02 - selects the appropriate methodology to solve a research or design problem,
K_U07 - is able to use modern information technologies (e.g., GIS, remote sensing, AutoCAD) to an advanced degree,
K_U09 - prepares simple reports and guidelines for expertise based on collected data.

Assessment criteria
The final grade of the course is based on passing a written test covering the scope of topics from the practical course and the completed graphic and calculation attachments.
