Gas chromatography coupled to the mass spectrometry 1200-SPORSchgs
Gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC / MS) will be presented during the lecture. The following will be discussed: the idea of mass spectrometry, basics of mass spectrometry, construction of spectrometers, ionization methods - electron ionization and chemical ionization, mass analyzers: quadrupole, ion traps and high resolution mass spectrometers; qualitative analysis will be discussed - total ion current (TIC) measurement, quantitative analysis - SIM; tandem mass spectrometry (MS / MS), structure determination by MS.
The lecture will be supplemented with four laboratory exercises:
1. Gas chromatography in cooperation with mass spectrometry,
2. Solid phase microextraction (SPME) using gas chromatography combined with mass spectrometry (GC / MS),
3. Analysis of the head space layer using gas chromatography combined with mass spectrometry (GC / MS),
4. Use of stable isotopes in GC / MS analysis, isotope dilution method and mass spectra interpretation.
