Chemistry didactics laboratory 1200-2LDCH2P
The aim of the course is to develop in students the ability to plan, prepare, and practically and safely carry out chemical experiments used in the implementation of the chemistry curriculum at the primary and upper secondary school levels.
Methods of introducing students to the properties of hazardous substances will be presented, as well as the principles and procedures for preparing safety data sheets adapted for school use. Occupational health and safety regulations (OHS) will be discussed in the context of training students to perform laboratory exercises safely and to provide first aid.
Ways of safely engaging students will be analyzed, including group work and independent laboratory work. Students will practice accurately describing observed phenomena, formulating conclusions, and preparing proper laboratory notes.
As part of the laboratory course, students perform and prepare reports on chemical experiments included in the primary and upper secondary school curricula, such as the preparation of gases and the investigation of their properties, reactions and preparation of oxides, acids, hydroxides, salts, and coordination compounds. They become familiar with and independently carry out experiments involving redox reactions as well as exercises in electrochemistry, kinetics, and chemical equilibrium.
In the descriptions of the experiments performed, students are required to take into account the safety principles for handling the reagents used.
Laboratory work - 45 hours

Assessment criteria
Completion of exercises during first aid training dedicated to future chemistry teachers.
Conducting and preparing reports on all chemical experiments included in the curriculum.
Passing a test in inorganic and physical chemistry based on the material included in the core curriculum for upper secondary schools.
Attendance will be recorded during classes.
Two absences per semester are allowed, provided they are justified. Missed laboratory classes must be made up.
A pass in the resit period may be obtained after passing the test and submitting reports from the laboratory exercises scheduled for the given semester.
Practical placement
Undergoing pedagogical apprenticeship in elementary and high school is necessary to obtain pedagogical qualifications.
