Isotopic dating 1200-2ENMON2
Basic methods of age determination, absolute and comparative methods.
"Classical" dating methods (short introduction): dendrochronology, lichenometry, magnetostratigraphy, luminescence dating, diagenesis dating, obsidian hydration dating, dating of water by means of determination of chemical compounds, biostratigraphy, varve chronology
Isotope dating methods:
- radiocarbon(C14)
- methods of dating of water; tritium; tritium-helium, chlorine, iodine, radon, helium (alpha), noble gases (Ar, Kr)
- methods of dating rock and soil material: strontium-rubidium; , potassium-argon, potassium-calcium, uranium-lead, samarium-neodymium, rhenium-osmium, lutetium-hafnium, cesium, "common lead" method, non-equilibrium method, fission track dating.
- dating by means of measurements of stable isotopes
- surface exposure dating
For each of the methods, the following topics will be presented:
- origin and circulation of isotopes in question and factors governing their abundance, including human activity;
- analytical methods applied;
- possible source of errors;
- verification of the results.
Various age determination methods will be compared.
