The topics of specialization exercises are related to the subject of research conducted in the research laboratories of ZChOiTCh. Within the specialization laboratory, students perform selected exercises from the proposed list of topics.
- Organic chemistry tools for synthesis and purification of a drug delivery system.
- Organic chemistry tools for synthesis and physicochemical characteristic of a drug delivery system.
- Synthesis, purification and physicochemical properties of organic semiconductors.
- Thermal analysis of functional materials.
- Determination of size and stability of nanoparticles by DLS method.
- Dynamic Light Scattering application in size detection of molecules and molecular aggregates.
- Nitroxide mediated polymerization.
- Atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) in preparation of new materials.
- Preparation of the Hoveyda-Grubbs-type catalyst for the olefin metathesis reaction:
[1,3-bis(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)imidazolidin-2-ylidene]-dichloro-[(5-nitro-2-propan-2-yloxyphenyl)methylidene]ruthenium(II) complex.

Learning outcomes
After the end of the classes, the student:
- knows modern methods of synthesis of organic compounds, nanoparticles, compounds with liquid crystalline properties, polymers, chiral catalysts, coordination compounds, including the use of microwaves, Schlenk technique, high-pressure reactors,
- is able to use modern research and analytical techniques such as: GC chromatography, HPLC, thermal analysis (DSC, TG), dynamic light scattering method (DLS), UV-Vis spectrophotometry, spectrofluorimetry, polarimetry, SAXS, SAXD, POM, 1H NMR, FTIR spectroscopy,
- is familiar with the principles of occupational health and safety in the chemical laboratory,
- is able to work in a team and is aware of the responsibility for joint tasks related to teamwork
Assessment criteria
Attendance mandatory. The number of excused absences allowed is 3 classes.
Assessment from the laboratory is the arithmetic mean of assessments from the exercises performed.
