Specialization Seminar - Organic Chemistry and Chemical Technology 1200-2CHORGTSA2M
The preparation of oral presentation, which includes student research update and literature reviews. The learning of IUPAC convention for chemical nomenclature. The emphasis is also put on the proper use of Polish language in the course of formal presentations.
Estimated student workload per semester - 100 hours, including:
- class participation 30 hours
- consultations 20 hours
- literature review regarding presentations by other class participants 20 hours
- preparing a presentation in English 30 hours

KNOWLEDGE: After completing the course, the student knows and understands

- has extensive knowledge of the place of chemistry in the system of exact and natural sciences and its importance for the development of humanity;
- has a good understanding of current trends in chemistry and the latest scientific discoveries in a given chemical specialization;
- has a structured understanding of the legal and ethical conditions related to research and teaching;
SKILLS: After completing the course, the student is able

- is able to apply appropriate methods, techniques, and research tools within a given chemical specialization, necessary to clarify the problem;
- has advanced knowledge and skills enabling the use of professional literature, databases, and other sources of information, as well as the ability to assess the reliability of obtained information;
- is able to apply acquired knowledge to related scientific disciplines and work in interdisciplinary teams;
- is able to discuss the place of chemistry in the system of exact and natural sciences and its importance for the development of our civilization;
- is able to prepare oral presentations in Polish and English on topics related to selected chemical issues, utilizing basic theoretical approaches and drawing on various sources;
- has sufficient English proficiency to use basic professional literature in chemistry and related sciences (at B2+ level);
SOCIAL COMPETENCES: After completing the course, the student is ready to

- understands the need for and knows the opportunities for continuous education; is able to independently search for information in the literature (including foreign languages) and seek expert advice;
