Laboratory of organic synthesis 1200-2BLOK1L1
Students will receive specific tasks (compounds) to obtain on a laboratory scale. Conduct a thorough review of the current available literature and databases.
On the basis of Retrosynthetic analysis they carry out of the task and choose their own synthetic path leading to the desired product.
Choosing an appropriate synthetic route should be guided by performance data obtained at different stages of specific methods and comparisons, its degree of difficulty for each method and the availability and price of feedstock.
Detailed analysis of these data combined student realizes the relationship between yields obtained during the subsequent stages and the final yield of the desired product in relation to the expenditure incurred.
Entrusted with the synthesis may include steps requiring the jacket of an inert gas and / or anhydrous conditions and / or long hours of heating and / or vacuum distillation and / or removal of water, etc. The resulting intermediates to be analyzed, inter alia, by thin layer chromatography and purified by standard laboratory techniques as well as by column chromatography. The correctness of the structure of the final product will be confirmed by available analytical and spectroscopic techniques such as NMR and MS.

Learning outcomes
Students , after completing this workshop, should be able to independently plan several-step synthesis and the use of available databases and literature, should also be able to perform the planned synthesis, skillfully using modern synthesis techniques and lab equipment. One should be able to isolate purified and analyze the products obtained, as well.
Assessment criteria
Passing on the basis of the final test in the field of theoretical bases and reaction conducted and the evaluation of laboratory work. Involvement in work, care for their own and others safety, and care work, and keeping current tangible in the daily lab notes will be taken into account in the first place. The resulting final performance will play a secondary role.
