Analytical Chemistry Laboratory 1200-1ZMCHANL3
All students have to perform preliminary exercises:
• Bases of laboratory technique: reliable measurement of liquide volume, heating of solutions, precipitation, filtering and precipitate washing and ignition, titration technique, forms of laboratory notebook.
• Calibration of volumetric glassware: flask and pipet
• Manipulation associated with weighting - weighting of Na2CO3
Students implementing level B have to perform following exercises:
• Preparation of 0.2 mol/l HCl and its standaridization using weighted Na2CO3. Determination of NaOH.
• pH-metric titrimetric determination of CO3 2- i HCO3- using standard HCl solution. Calculation of CO3 2- i HCO3- content using titration curves.
Preparation of 0.05 mol/l AgNO3 solution using dried salt. Titration of Cl- ions by Mohr method.
• Indirect manganometric determination of calcium. Precipitation of CaC2O4 and its dissolution in H2SO4 solution. Titration of C2O4 2-ions with standard solution of KMnO4.
• Preparation of 0.05 mol/l EDTA solution and its standardization using ZnO. Volumetric determination of the mixture Ca2+ and Mg2+ions.

Knowledge: Student will know:
• fundamental components of matter and properties of chemical elements,
• fundamental chemical principles and nomenclature, notation of course of chemical reactions and essential mathematical concepts,
• fundaments of analytical chemistry in the fields of quantitative analysis and inorganic chemistry,
• fundamental rules of occupational safety and health enough to laboratory work practice,
• ethic rules and standards connected with scientific and educational activities.
Competences: student will be able to apply:
• chemical laws in selected chemical problems,
• differential calculus methods to solve chemical problems,
and will be able:
• to carry out quantitative analysis of inorganic substances,
• to design and carry out experiments and their critical evaluation,
• to obey ethic rules and standards connected with scientific and educational activities.
Social competences: Student will behave professionally, respect ethic rules, develop professional and individual competences, and will be able to responsibly operate in a team
Assessment criteria
Final grade consists of:
- theoretical part (five short tests allowing the performance of laboratory exercises),
- practical part (obtained results of determinations)
Two absences are allowed.
