Lecture:
1. Whether to be afraid of ionising radiation?
2. Application of nuclear techniques in industry and medicine and the potential risks involved.
3. Basic dosimetry quantities of ionising radiation. Dosimetric instruments and their calibration.
4 Biological effects of ionising radiation.
5 The Atomic Law and implementing acts.
6. basic principles of radiological protection, safe work with radiation sources.
7 Preparation and supervision of radiological protection documents.
8. individual and work environment dosimetry control.
9. radioactive waste.
Exercises:
1. Calculation of change in activity over time, calculation of urinary doses, doses and shielding.
2. Optimisation of working conditions under exposure conditions, assessment of individual doses based on dosimetric measurements in the working environment.
3. Estimation of permissible residence time in a room with increased radiation, evaluation of internal body contamination.

On completion of the course the student:
1. knows the principles of radiological protection
2. knows the legal regulations in force in Poland
3. be able to prepare and control in an organisational unit the procedures of radiological protection
4. is able to prepare and supervise in an organisational unit the documentation
5. be able to carry out individual dosimetric and work environment inspections
Assessment criteria
A condition for taking the examination is that you have passed the radiological protection exercises. The examination tests the knowledge of basic issues in radiological protection and legislation. The prerequisite for passing the lecture is 50% of the maximum possible number of points.
