EEG Workshop 1100-3BN16
The aim of this course is to teach students the techniques of measreament of electroencephalogram (EEG) in humans. The construction and parameters of EEG equipment will be presented. The problem of artifacts and methods for thier minimization will be discussed. The course consists of two parts: the theoretical and the practical one. During the practical part students will record their own EEG signals in a number of experimental paradigms.
1. EEG signal characteristics. Biophysical basics of brain electrical signal generation. Models of EEG generation and of event related potentials, relation between the electric fields in the brain and on the scalp. EEG signals in epilepsy, neurodegenerative diseases, pharmaco-EEG.
2. Systems of electrode placement, reference systems.
3. Artifacts in EEG signals.
4. Recording and analysis of resting state EEG. Autocorrelation function and spectrum.
5. Recording and analysis of visual and auditory evoked potentials. Recording and analysis of an odd-ball paradigm experiment.
6. Recording and analysis of SSVEP.
7. Introduction to time-frequency analysis. Event-related synchronization and desynchronization in motor experiments.

He understands the basic phenomena and physical processes , chemical and biological -related to generation and measurement of EEG signal, understands the importance and possibilities of using scientific and practical, interdisciplinary approach in the sciences and natural sciences ( KW_01 , KW_03 ) .
2 Knows the basic construction and parameters of apparatus for recording EEG activity ( KW_05 ) .
3 He knows the source of the artifacts of the EEG signal and is able to recognize them. Knows the basic paradigms used in research on event related potentials ( KW_04 , KW_06 ) .
4 He knows the methodology of analysis of EEG signals in the temporal and spectral analysis ( KW_02 ) .
5 He knows the basic principles of health and safety related to the EEG signal recording ( KW_07 ) .
SKILLS
1 He can plan and measure the electrical activity of the brain ( KU_01 , KU_06 ) .
2 He uses appropriate numerical methods for the analysis of EEG data ( KU_02 )
3 Is able to implement the procedures needed in high-level programming language ( KU_03 )
4 Can present the results of research ( experimental , theoretical or computational ) in the form of a written report, in the form of oral presentation using computer techniques multimedia presentations ( KU_07 )
ATTITUDES
1 Student recognizes the importance of physics , especially of electrical phenomena in the functioning of the brain.
2 Is able to interact and work in groups ( K_K02 )
3 Can properly identify priorities for specific tasks and projects of various nature ( K_K03 )
