Student nabędzie podstawową wiedzę na temat zmiany społecznych w Nowym Jorku od lat 70. do współczesności oraz bardziej szczegółową wiedzę na temat klas społecznych oraz grup etno-rasowych we współczesnym Nowym Jorku i jego dzielnicach.
2. UMIEJĘTNOŚCI
Pisanie krótkich prac wyrażających wiedzę i akademicką opinię o obejrzanym filmie, tekście
Wygłaszanie referatów
Dostrzeganie społecznych aspektów filmów
Rozumienie mechanizmów konfliktów społecznych, migracji, interakcji między różnymi grupami etnicznymi i dochodowymi
Rozumienie różnych form integracji społecznej

Kryteria oceniania
1. Regularna obecność i udział w zajęciach oraz tekst z opiniami na temat zadanego tekstu lub filmu o długości około 1 strony (1800 znaków) na co drugie zajęcia. Daty prac będą ogłoszone na początku kursu. Praca powinnna komentować zadany tekst lub społeczne aspekty filmu. Należy ją przesłać emailem do: sosnowska2808@gmail.com najpóźniej do godz. 10PM w dniu poprzedzającym zajęcia, na które zadany jest tekst lub film. (35%)
2. Dwa 60-minutowe sprawdziany dotyczące zadanych tekstów i filmów, których student nie omawiał w swoich tekstach z opiniami (reaction papers). (35%)
3. około 15-minutowy referat na temat zadanego tekstu lub filmu. Referat powinien krótko I krytycznie je omówić, dokładnie przedyskutować kilka wybranych aspektów oraz sformułować pytania dyskusji w grupie. Najlepsze referaty powinny przedstawić dzielnicę, której dotyczy film lub tekst i odwoływać się do samodzielnych badań studenta – przeglądu artykułów z New York Times (30%)
