The course will cover the following issues:
1. Intertwining urban governance with contemporary problems of urban development.
2. Classification and analyses of urban policies.
3. Institutional, legal, and financial instruments of urban policies.
4. Setting City Agendas.
5. Designing cross-cutting policies.
6. Tools of creative public intervention.
7. Trends and challenges in upgrading urban services.
The classes are open to students from a wide range of backgrounds, including social sciences, economics, natural sciences, and the humanities.

Learning outcomes
In terms of knowledge the student:
(1) knows and understands the basis of an integrated approach in the realm of designing urban policies (K_W02)
(2) knows how city agendas are established (K_W01)
In terms of abilities and skills, the student:
(1) is able to critically analyze new institutional arrangements in urban polices (K_U01)
(2) knows how to use tools of creative public intervention (K_U08)
In terms of social skills, the student:
(1) is ready to recognize problems in upgrading urban services (K_K02)
Assessment criteria
Attendance and activity during classes (50 %) and a test covering material presented during the course (50 %). To pass (grade 3) it is necessary to get at least 60%.
