MD/EIiW-Social work methodology 2300-MD/EIiW-MPS
The aim of the course is a comprehensive approach to support and change process in the practice of social work. The course will analyze such aspects as the ethical base of social work, roles and relationships between the social worker and the client, or the impact of direct and indirect action on the process of change. During the course, students will learn about the stages of the process and support means to achieve them. They will find out how the planning, diagnosis and work with the individual case and the family can be implemented. The different models and methods of social work (eg, functional model, behavior modification model, or crisis intervention, support groups, and counseling). During the course students’ experiences of the practice will be discussed and analyzed.

Learning outcomes
After the course, the student will:
- Know the basic terms and concepts in the methodology of social work,
- Know how to characterize the relationship and roles of the client and social worker in the help process,
- Know and could relate to the values and ethics of social work,
- Be able to identify the basic skills and competencies of social worker,
- Know the steps in the help process
- Could make the diagnosis and assessment of the client in the process of help
- Be able to identify goals and create plan of the help process and the methodology of social contract,
- Know the models and methods of work with an individual person and family,
- Will understand the need for help process evaluation
Assessment criteria
- Compulsory attendance (maximum of 2 absences)
- Active participation in class and reading materials
- Term papers based on practices.
