Methodology of work with people with disabilities 2300-MD/EIiW-MPON
The issues to be discussed include definition, classification and etiology of disability. The classes will also involve discussion of the issues concerning the availability of special and inclusive institutions for people with disability. The theoretical issues pertain to the nature of teaching and upbringing individuals belonging to various groups of people with disability (motor, intellectual, vision, hearing) and of people with chronic diseases and pervasive development disorders. The course also covers the methodology of education in social relations, cognitive activities, perceptual and motor skills and autonomy. The program of classes also includes obtaining information about augmentative and alternative communication and the methods of supporting the development of disabled persons. The course also lists the tasks of a teacher working with a particular child and cooperating with parents and caretakers.

Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student:
(knowledge) - gives definitions, causes and degrees of the disability;
- knows and can describe institutions providing assistance to disabled persons;
(abilities) - describes functioning of people with particular degree of disability;
- is able to determine special educational needs of disabled children and people with pervasive development disorders;
- can adapt educational requirements to the needs of an intellectually disabled child;
(attitudes) - is able to diversify behavioral incentives of disabled people
- understands the need to support disabled people and their families.
Assessment criteria
Presence and active participation in class, being acquainted with books, test.
Practical placement
The subject is accompanied by 30 hours of practical training.
