Omawiane wymiary życia społecznego to: rola rasowo zdefiniowanego niewolnictwa i imigracji w kształtowaniu amerykańskich stosunków rasowych i etnicznych; klasy społeczne – od najzamożniejszego ‘jednego procentu’ społeczeństwa, poprzez mityczną w tradycji amerykańskiej klasę średnią do miejskiej podklasy – w epoce rosnących nierówności; stosunek do biednych i pomocy społecznej; seksualność; tradycyjne i nowe formy życia rodzinnego; ideały domu i stylu życia w miastach i na przedmieściach; pracę, konsumpcję i religię.

Każdy z tych dwóch testów trwa 45 minut i zawiera w sumie 30 pytań wielokrotnego wyboru i typu prawda/fałsz. Macionis, Sociology, Prentice Hall, 2005) i teksty.
