Among others workshop II 2300-OG-Multi-AOII
The main aim of the workshop “Among others” is to develop students’ intercultural competence understood as:
knowledge about cross-cultural differences and their influence on people’s behavior;
ability to establish and build positive intercultural relations,
open attitude towards ambiguity and cognitive curiosity. Moreover, we would like to prepare students to be multipliers of knowledge and attitudes connected with intercultural education among different age groups, especially among children and youth.
Workshops “Among others” consists of two 8 – hour modules:
1. Introduction to intercultural education
2. How to support intercultural competences among children and youth?;
Workshop content:
1. Introduction to intercultural education:
explanation of the following ideas: culture, multiculturalism, intercultural education;
phenomena appearing when cultures meet and different strategies dealing with them;
cross-cultural differences, stereotypes, prejudice, cultural dimensions.
possibilities of implementing intercultural projects using the funds of the Polish-German Youth Cooperation and the Erasmus + Youth program.
2. Intercultural class – developing competences of teachers working with school youth:
the specificity of working in an intercultural classroom
role of a teacher as appreciating the diversity
developing skills necessary to work with migrant children and Polish children returning from migration
most common difficulties arising in the intercultural classroom. Strategies for preventing/dealing with them (with particular emphasis on the specificity of the adaptation process of foreign students)
Duration: 8 teaching hours
Active and engaging methods of instruction will be offered during workshops.
During one workshop day we will realize one 8-hour-module.

KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge and understanding of intercultural education idea and aims
Knowledge and understanding of non-formal education idea and values
Knowledge and understanding of key concepts related to intercultural education
Knowledge and understanding of cross-cultural processes and their influence on intercultural cooperation
Knowledge of the strategies of dealing with cross-cultural processes
A deeper awareness of own cultural determinants and how they influence the behavior and perception of the world
Deeper knowledge of potential misunderstandings in intercultural communication and strategies of dealing with them
Knowledge of Educational Programs offering the possibilities to realize intercultural projects
SKILLS
Ability to describe and explain cultural processes
Ability to establish and build positive intercultural relations
Ability to adjust own behavior to the cultural context and to deal with ambiguous situations
Development of the ability to communicate effectively in various intercultural contexts (educational, professional, private)
Deeper understanding and ability to analyze values, norms, and behaviors
Ability to read messages in accordance with culturally adequate communication code
Improvement of ability to deal with challenges and difficulties in various intercultural contexts
Ability to critically reflect about and take distance from one's own perceptions and stereotypical constructions of reality

Being aware of cultural differences
Becoming more attentive and open to cultural diversity
Perceiving diversity as a potential
Adapting an open attitude towards other cultures
Acceptance of different points of view
Kryteria oceniania
The final grade will be given on the basis of:
- Presence and active participation.
