first cycle programme full-time, 3-year studies Language: English | Jump to: Opis ogólnyThe European Politics and Economics programme is addressed to students interested in economic and political integration, the functioning of the European Union, EU law and the EU internal market, particularly with respect to the economy, finance and detailed policy. The programme covers the structure, competences and activities of the European Union, its impact on Member States, and the mutual relations between them. A unique feature of the programme is that it is run jointly by two faculties at Warsaw University: the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies and the Faculty of Economic Sciences. Due to this cooperation, the programme emphasises economic premises and the consequences of European integration. This well-developed economic component clearly differentiates this programme from other European studies programmes offered in Poland. The entire programme is conducted in English. Students of the European Politics and Economics programme are given the opportunity to learn from distinguished Europeanists, political scientists, economists and lawyers, both theoreticians and practitioners. The teaching staff includes lecturers who have worked in government ministries, think tanks, foreign institutions, the media, and business. The programme covers the reasons for and the course of European integration, in terms of economics, politics, institutions and the law. Students learn about the successive stages in the process of integration, analyse historical texts (political speeches, declarations, acts of law) as well as trade databases, examine various conceptions of EU development, and forecast and interpret the opportunities, challenges and threats the EU faces. They are also encouraged to critically evaluate the political and economic consequences of European integration, and to take part in the ongoing debate over the final form of a united Europe and the Union’s territorial limits. Students also acquire knowledge on international economics, the functioning of trade, and on international capital, labour and currency markets. They are introduced to the processes of currency and economic integration in the EU, and the impact these have on private and public entities. Students participate in workshop-type lessons, simulations of the work of EU institutions, Oxford-style debates, and round tables. A variety of audiovisual tools are used in class (Survey Monkey, Kahoot, Playfacilte, Wordart.com, Prezi, Bookcreator, etc.). Employment prospects Graduates of the programme come out with basic knowledge on the functioning of the various and multifaceted spheres of European politics, which enables them to: understand the dynamics of political, economic, legal and social changes at the national and supranational levels; work out decision-making strategies; and analyse the positions, approaches and conduct of participants in integration processes, as well as the mutual relations among them and their interactions with other entities (stakeholders) in social and economic life. Graduates are also knowledgeable about the economic aspects of the functioning of the European Union and the implementation of EU policies. The programme provides an interdisciplinary education combining elements from the social, economic and legal sciences in the area of European studies. The programme prepares people both substantively and linguistically to conduct business activity on the EU market, and to work in lobbying or consulting firms, in public administration at the government and local government levels, as officials of EU institutions or agencies or in international structures, in non-governmental organisations, in the media, and in cultural institutions active in European marketing. Knowledge: the graduate knows and understands
– the basic theories explaining international relations of states and international integration processes in a broader sense, with particular attention given to European integration;
– European groups, societies, nations and cultures comprehensively, in addition to the regularities, nature, changes and manifestations of their functioning;
– the basic and varied methods, tools and techniques for obtaining and processing data relating to the European Union and to the social and economic sciences;
– the basic processes and concepts of the European Union development, dependencies between the formation and functioning of the European Union and changes in the socio-cultural, economic and political spheres of the world and the continent;
– the structure, competence and functioning of the European Union, its impact on the Member States and their mutual relations;
– the main stages and dimensions of the development of the European philosophy, including the perception of the state, power and social structures;
– the fundamental legal and social norms which constitute and regulate European social and economic structures and institutions, including intellectual property rights along with their sources, specificities, evolution and influence on human behaviour;
– the economic and social aspects of the EU Member States’ integration and the impact of the European Union on the economic and social policies of the Member States, including various forms of economic activity and individual entrepreneurship;
– international economic relations, the functioning of the international capital, labour and currency markets;
– the processes of monetary and economic integration and their impact on private and public entities;
– the determinants and scope of the European Union’s sectoral policies and their impact on the role and position of the European Union in international relations;
– the basic knowledge of the human and the citizen constituting the professional, social, state and supranational structures, his status and rights and the principles of functioning within these structures.
Skills: the graduate is able
– to observe and interpret diverse social phenomena in Europe as well as the European Union and analyse the connections between the cultural, political, economic and legal spheres, both at their internal and external level;
– to apply diversified theoretical knowledge and social science research methods to obtain and interpret data about the European Union and the European countries;
– to forecast simple social processes and phenomena with the use of standard methods and tools appropriate to social sciences, in particular as regards the political and economic phenomena of the European Union and the European countries, applying modern information technologies;
– to formulate and analyse typical and non-standard research problems, select research methods and tools, elaborate and present findings that address problems specific to the study of Europe and the European Union;
– to analyse at a basic level the solutions to specific social, political and economic problems of the European Union and Europe and propose appropriate solutions;
– to analyse structures and institutions, in particular political, economic, national, supranational and EU ones in relation to their national and international environment;
– to speak a foreign language other than the language of instruction in accordance with the requirements of the CEFR B1 level;
– to apply economic theories to model socio-economic processes on the basis of the scientific method;
– to analyse the processes of monetary and economic integration and their impact on private and public entities;
– to identify and interpret scenarios for the creation and implementation of public policies at the national and supranational level and apply the acquired knowledge to the overall assessment of the quality of policies conducted by the European countries and the European Union;
– to improve themselves independently and in groups, develop cooperative and organisational skills, expand their field of study and interdisciplinary knowledge.
Social skills: the graduate is prepared
– to prioritise tasks defined by themselves and others which relate to their educational, study and professional objectives;
