Ogólna charakterystyka

Politologia to nauka społeczna zajmująca się polityką rozumianą jako całokształt działalności związanej ze sprawowaniem władzy politycznej, jej funkcją i rolą w życiu społecznym, a także teorią jej organizacji. Do podstawowych kategorii tej nauki należy państwo. Politologia opisuje jego historyczny rozwój, funkcje, charakter i sposób funkcjonowania. Bada jego ustrój i reżim polityczny. Politologia zajmuje się także funkcjonowaniem organizacji międzynarodowych, charakterystyką współczesnych problemów globalnych, integracją europejską, etc. W wymiarze krajowym przedmiotem jej zainteresowania są także administracja, samorząd lokalny, komunikowanie polityczne, czy wreszcie trzeci sektor i społeczeństwo obywatelskie.

Od wielu lat politologia pozostaje także jednym z najpopularniejszych kierunków studiów. Jej interdyscyplinarny charakter sprawia, że zarówno w Europie, jak i w Stanach Zjednoczonych jest jednym z najchętniej wybieranych kierunków w ramach studiów I stopnia . Polskim liderem kształcenia na kierunku politologia jest bez wątpienia Wydział Nauk Politycznych i Studiów Międzynarodowych UW, najstarszy i największy ośrodek politologiczny w Polsce. Najwyższe standardy potwierdzają Certyfikat Jakości Kształcenia przyznany przez Uniwersytecką Komisję Akredytacyjną i pozytywna ocenaPaństwowej Komisji Akredytacyjnej dla kierunku politologia. Dominującą pozycję weryfikują także coroczne rankingi przygotowywane przez opiniotwórcze pisma społeczno-polityczne.

Studia I stopnia (licencjackie) trwają sześć semestrów i są przeznaczone dla absolwentów szkół średnich. Mogą na nie aplikować osoby posiadające polską, zagraniczną, międzynarodową lub europejską maturę.

Studia realizowane są w formie niestacjonarnej (zaocznej). Kwalifikacja na studia niestacjonarne zaoczne odbywa się na podstawie złożonych dokumentów.

Na drugim roku studiów studenci dokonują wyboru jednej z kilku atrakcyjnych specjalizacji:

  • Państwo i administracja
  • Ustrojowa
  • Historyczno-politologiczna
  • Marketing polityczny

Zajęcia odbywają się w soboty i niedziele, co około dwa tygodnie, w godzinach 800-2000, głównie na terenie Kampusu Centralnego Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego przy ul. Krakowskie Przedmieście.

Praktyki nie są obowiązkowe (istnieje możliwość fakultatywnego zrealizowania praktyk studenckich).

Sylwetka absolwenta

Absolwent studiów I stopnia posiada ogólną wiedzę pozwalającą zrozumieć zjawiska i procesy polityczne zachodzące w skali globalnej, regionalnej, państwowej i lokalnej a także pozwalające analizować zależności między funkcjonowaniem instytucji politycznych, społeczeństw i jednostek ludzkich. Zna historyczne uwarunkowania oraz współczesne mechanizmy działania systemów politycznych.

Absolwent posiada umiejętności wykorzystania zdobytej wiedzy w pracy zawodowej i życiu z zachowaniem zasad etycznych. Umie rozwiązywać proste problemy zawodowe, uczestniczyć w pracy zespołowej, kierować zespołami ludzkimi, wykonującymi zadania zlecone, komunikować się z otoczeniem, zbierać, hierarchizować, przetwarzać i przekazywać informacje.

Absolwent zna język obcy na poziomie biegłości B2 Europejskiego Systemu Opisu Kształcenia Językowego Rady Europy oraz umie posługiwać się językiem specjalistycznym niezbędnym do wykonywania zawodu.

Absolwent jest przygotowany do pracy w administracji rządowej i samorządowej, organach partii politycznych, organizacjach gospodarczych i społecznych, instytucjach i organizacjach międzynarodowych a także w mediach oraz szkolnictwie. Jest również przygotowany do podjęcia studiów drugiego stopnia.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge: the graduate knows and understands
– the specificity of social sciences compared to other sciences, the nature of political science and its place in the sphere of social sciences;
– the role of the human being in the social life from the historical and contemporary point of view, and in the political, economic (including the professional and entrepreneurial activity) and cultural dimensions, in addition to their interactions with their immediate environment and the structures in which these interactions take place, along with their changes;
– the conditions and forms of participation in the social life at its different levels;
– the selected phenomena of power, politics, administration and law in the Polish, European and global dimension, in addition to the principles of functioning of the political system and other socio-political organisations and institutions;
– the phenomena of democracy, the civil society and the specificity of political thought and culture from the historical and contemporary point of view, as well as at the Polish, European and global level;
– different concepts of politics, values and social norms, in addition to the most important directions of political science research and their relations with research in other spheres of social science;
– the mechanisms of political activity (governance and decision-making) and communication in the political landscape;
– basic notions and principles in the field of intellectual property and copyright law protection.

Skills: the graduate is able
– to observe and interpret diversified social and political phenomena and see their mutual relations and dependencies;
– to identify the causes and course of phenomena concerning the political sphere and is able to forecast them; they can also study and explain the role of social, economic and cultural structures in the contemporary world;
– to apply the theoretical knowledge in the field of political science and related disciplines to analyse and interpret phenomena and processes in the sphere of politics;
– to identify and explain the principles and values of a democratic state as well as a civil society; they are able to assess the cultural heritage of the human beings with particular attention given to political culture;
– to engage in lifelong learning and to improve and broaden their knowledge and professional skills;
– to identify the assumptions of different policy concepts, assess their effectiveness and to perceive the relations between a policy and historical, economic, social and cultural phenomena and processes;
– to apply the axionormative system and specific rules and norms in the sphere related to the public activity as well as recognise and analyse ethical dilemmas;
– to independently acquire knowledge with the use of various sources of information and modern technologies;
– to present their own interpretations of political phenomena, justify them and confront them with the views of other students and various authors;
– to collect, prioritise and process information and prepare written assignments and projects on specific topics with the use of basic theoretical approaches and a variety of sources, both individually and in groups;
– to prepare oral presentations concerning specific issues with the use of basic theoretical approaches and a variety of sources;
– to speak a foreign language at a CEFR B2 level.

Social skills: the graduate is prepared
– to actively participate in public life, including teams pursuing social, political and civic objectives; to think and act entrepreneurially;
– to carry out individual and group work in the field of research and social projects as well as to appropriately identify priorities in order to complete tasks defined by themselves and others;
– to correctly identify and resolve professional dilemmas.
