"Magnum miraculum est homo" - humanist ideals in French Renaissance literature 3304-1DZ1W-KL-012-OG
The seminar is intended for students who would like to deepen their knowledge of the cultural and literary phenomena of the French Renaissance and its connections with Italian philosophical thought (Giovanni Pico della Mirandola, Marsilio Ficino). The considerations will touch upon a few of the most important issues: the definition and characteristics of the term "humanism", the main philosophical trends shaping the attitude towards man, his freedom and autonomy in the perspective of temporal and spiritual life. On the basis of selected works, we will recreate the system of values resulting from the assumptions made by the representatives of Renaissance humanism.
Selected Issues:
-Renesance ideal of man: Giovanni Pico della Mirandola De hominis dignitate;
-Knowledge and education as value: François Rabelais and Erasme de Rotterdam
-Microcosme by Maurice Scève - encyclopedic work on man
-Michel de Montaigne and the difficulties of knowing human nature.
