BA Seminar 3301-SEM-LIC
The BA seminar is designed for third-year students of the undergraduate (first cycle) studies in the Institute of English Studies, University of Warsaw. Its goal is to prepare each student for writing a diploma dissertation in accordance with all formal and methodological requirements as well as with intellectual property rights.
The one-semester seminars are offered for all three academic specializations – literature (British or American), culture (British or American) and linguistics (theoretical or applied). In class seminar students discuss general content of their dissertations, get acquainted with methods of working on research sources (both primary and secondary) and select particular issues for their analysis. They also learn rules for writing and structuring academic works.
Prerequisites: Competence in English at the B2+ level.

Assessment criteria
The criteria for assessment of seminar students’ work and completion of the seminar are as follows:
- attendance
- active participation in the classes
- submission and approval of the dissertation’s title, outline and preliminary bibliography by the supervisor
- approval of the dissertation’s title by the Council of the Institute of English Studies
- submission and approval of the complete dissertation by the supervisor
Bibliography
Writing textbooks to be selected by each seminar group’s teacher. Research books chosen to suit individual students’ needs.
