The aim of the course is to show the specificity of theater, show its development and evolution. Attention will be focused on the most important phenomena and forms of the theater of Central and Eastern Europe.
The following issues are discussed as part of the course:
At the source of the theater. The concept of theater - various definitions of theater.
The ritual source of the theater. Greek theater.
The essence of theatrical experience.
Theater and medieval drama.
Main currents of the Renaissance theater.
Characteristics of the theater of the Baroque period.
Age of Enlightenment. The birth of the national theatre.
Great theater reform of the 19th and 20th centuries.
Theater in social life.
An actor in the theater and his attitude to the role. Actor and stage character.
Art - artist - director.
Theater space - stage and audience.
Theater at the beginning of the 21st century - across borders, against divisions.

Learning outcomes
Student:
1) has knowledge about the contemporary theater of three selected countries of Central and Eastern Europe (Belarus, Russia, Ukraine) and theater processes taking place in these countries (S1_W01, a reference to the directional learning outcomes: K1_W03, K1_W04);
2) has knowledge about the history of world theater, its development in relation to three countries of the Region (S1_W06, reference to the directional learning outcomes: K1_W03, K1_W04, K1_W06, K1_W07);
3) understands the intercultural context, has knowledge of a modern man and his perception of social life (S1_W10, a reference to the directional learning outcomes: K1_W04, K1_W05, K1_W07);
4) referring to the acquired theoretical and practical knowledge, can use it in typical professional statements regarding the history of theater (S1_U02, reference to the directional learning outcomes: K1_U04, K1_U06);
5) is able to recognize different types of theater (above all Central and Eastern Europe), conduct analysis, distinguish different perspectives on the development of theatre (S1_U05, reference to the directional learning outcomes: K1_U05, K1_U07);
6) is able to develop their research skills, independently acquire knowledge, using the teacher's support, skilfully formulate thoughts, present the results of research in the form of oral or written (various types) (S1_U03, reference to the directional learning outcomes: K1_U02, K1_U03);
7) is able to prepare a written and oral statement on selected topics in the history of the theater of the Region countries and present the results of his work on the group forum (S1_U06, reference to the directions of learning outcomes: K1_U01, K1_U08, K1_09);
8) the student is ready to correctly determine the priorities for the implementation of the task set by himself or others (S1_K03, reference to the directions of learning outcomes: K1_K03);
9) student jest gotów do ciągłego dokształcania się i uzupełniania zdobytej wiedzy (S1_K04, odniesienie do kierunków efektów kształcenia: K1_K01, K1_K02).
Assessment criteria
The condition for admission to pass the grade is compulsory attendance (maximum number of unjustified absences is allowed).
Passing the grade will be oral.
It will include knowledge of the material discussed during the classes during the semester and one text selected by the student from the presented list of literature.
The final evaluation consists of:
answer to two questions: one of the material discussed in class (50%), the second - proposed texts (50%).

0% -49% - 2
50% -60% - 3
61% -70% - 3+
71% -80% - 4
81% -90% - 4+
