Thematic seminar I 1900-3-SMT1-GSEC
The aim of the course is to learn an issue in socio-economic geography selected in a given semester.
Students focus on a skillful search for source materials, analyze available definitions related to the topic, as well as previous research in the discussed area.
Students acquire the ability to analyze the literature, develop conclusions, and - depending on the issue raised - analyze the possibility of implementing some solutions in Polish conditions.

Learning outcomes
KNOWLEDGE - the student knows:
1. main research directions and achievements of contemporary geography and relations between natural and social science disciplines
2. complex social, political and cultural processes in territorial communities
3. geographical concepts that explain the diversity of phenomena and
processes on the Earth's surface
4. advanced conceptual categories in geography
5. latest trends in the development of scientific research in Poland and abroad and applications of scientific achievements in the practice of economic geography and spatial management
SKILLS - the student is able to:
1. use theoretical knowledge to describe and solve a research problem
2. select and apply optimal methods for spatial data acquisition, analysis and presentation, including advanced information and communication techniques
3. use critically scientific literature and other sources, also in a foreign language, in the field of a selected specialization
4. present research findings and lead the debate
5. plan and conduct both individual and team research in the area of the chosen specialty
6. prepare written papers based on the literature and/or own research
7. use detailed geographical terminology in Polish and in a foreign language at B2+ level
COMPETENCIES - The student is prepared to:
1. broaden their professional competences and update their geographical knowledge, adding an interdisciplinary dimension, and evaluate them critically
2. co-operate and work in a group, inspire and organise and foresee the outcome of their activities
3. dissemination of scientific achievements in the context of the societal role of science
Assessment criteria
The student is required to:
1. preparing presentations on assigned topics,
2. participation in class discussions,
3. preparation of written work (essay) on a given topic, from which they must obtain a positive grade.
Criteria for grading written work will be presented and discussed in class.
