Residential function in city region 1900-3-FMRM-GSEC
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the development, formation and perception of the housing function in cities and the urban region. Students will also learn about current research on housing.
The following topics are covered during the class:
1. Development of the housing function Antiquity, Middle Ages, Renaissance
2. Housing development between 1900 and 1939
3. Housing development between 1945-1989 and after 1989
3a. Housing development concepts: community settlement, neighborhood unit, etc.
4. Spatial forms of housing: single-family housing, multi-family housing, gated estates
5. Forms of housing organisation: cooperative housing, developer housing
6. Forms of housing support at the city and commune level: TBS, commune housing stock, assisted housing
7. Housing policy of cities
8. Forms of housing support at the national level: housing programmes and policies
9. Current residential development surveys

1. Geographical concepts explaining the diversity of phenomena and processes
floating on the diversification of urban and tourist space
2. Functional-spatial conflicts in urban or tourist space
3. Using theoretical knowledge of socio-economic geography to describe and solve a research problem
4. Correctly interpret and explain the interrelationships between social and natural phenomena and processes in urbanized or tourist areas
5. Forecasting changes in social processes in urban or tourist areas
6. Use of scientific literature and other sources, including in English, in the field of socio-economic geography
7. Independently plan your own academic or professional career in industries related to the city or tourism
8. Broadening professional competences and updating knowledge in the field of socio-economic geography enriched with the interdisciplinary dimension
9. Dissemination of achievements of socio-economic geography in the context of the social role of science
Student:
- can discuss changes in the function of housing forms over time
- can characterise concepts of housing development and indicate examples of implementation
- understands the way the housing function is organized, indicates the differences in the functioning of the resources of cooperatives, housing communities and TBS
- understands the need to formulate a housing policy for the municipality
- understands the principles of functioning of the municipality's housing stock
- has knowledge of national housing policy
- has knowledge of current research on housing
Assessment criteria
The lecture series is completed with a written credit. The credit is in the form of a test containing open and technically closed questions.
Assessment is based on taking a written credit. A passing grade for the test is achieved when more than 5o% of the points are scored.
