Applications of modern exploration and research methods in the prospection of metallic deposits and associated critical and precious elements 1300-WANMPRM
The subject presents issues related to the application of various methods and techniques of exploration and comprehensive research related to the process of prospecting and documenting metal ore deposits with coexisting trace elements. Some of them are considered critical for the development of modern technologies in the global economy. Therefore, research methods for their identification in abandoned and exploited deposit areas will be presented, as well as examples of occurrences and significance for the development of modern technologies. It consists of 5 main groups of topics, of which: (1) concerns the currently used methods of prospection (data mining and data visualization, and methods: geological, geophysical, geochemical, mineralogical, isotopic, etc.) used in the search for metal ore deposits in various geological formations in Poland and in the world. (2) contains criteria for identifying prospective and prognostic areas for metal ores and discussing examples of their occurrence and documentation in Poland and in the world. (3) concerns the application of modern and comprehensive analytical and research methods (geochemical, mineralogical and isotopic) for the purpose of identifying minerals as carriers of trace elements. (4) will be examples of exploration and research of various critical minerals (CRM'2020 list, including: REE, Li, Co, V, Ti, Bi, In, Ga, Ge, metallic silicon) related to the main minerals in various metalogenic formations in Poland and in the world.
The last group (5) concerns the application of good practices and basic legal and environmental regulations for planning and carrying out exploration of metal ores in Poland. On-line lectures will present the methodological basics of techniques used in prospecting metal ore deposits, the methodology of analytical and research works, as well as examples of exploration areas along with the succession of the application of exploration and research methods, as well as planned goals and final effects from the conducted exploration and research work for metal ores and the accompanying elements. The lectures will also present the main metal ore deposit formations in Poland known to students, which have so far been tested to a small extent in terms of the content of critical elements in them. The microscopic polished sections identifying the main minerals as carriers of trace elements as well as specimens of ores and minerals from various deposit areas in Poland and around the world will be presented in terms of the content of critical elements in them and the possibility of their recovery in the ore processing. On the basis of the information obtained, students will be able to present their questions and opinions raised during the lectures in the form of discussions. The thematic cycle will end with a short test summarizing the information presented.

Learning outcomes
After listening to a series of lectures entitled "Applications of modern methods of exploration and research in prospecting of deposits of metal ores as well as critical and noble elements" the student has knowledge of the use of various geophysical, geochemical, mineralogical and isotopic methods for the purpose of searching and study the presence of critical and precious elements accompanying metal ores in various metalogenic formations in Poland, and from selected regions around the world. The student knows the method of distinguishing prospective areas for metal ore deposits and the location of selected deposits in terms of the presence of metal ores with accompanying critical and precious elements against the background of regional geology. The student will learn about various research methods of minerals, carriers of trace elements and their importance for the development of modern technologies. Moreover, he/she knows the principles of separating critical mineral resources for the world economy and the use of the so-called good practices in searching for metal ore deposits in Poland and in the world. The student will learn the mineral composition of selected metal ore deposits with their potential carriers of trace elements, such as REE, Co, Bi, V, Au, PGE, Ti, etc. In the basic scope, the student can determine the selection of metal ores prospection methods depending on the type of potential deposit. On the basic level can determine the usefulness of some raw materials and knows what elements are critical for the modern economy and will be the target of the search with the given balance criteria.
Assessment criteria
The series of lectures is completed in writing test. To pass, you must obtain at least 51% of the maximum number of points in the test. The condition for taking the test is attendance (2 absences are allowed).
Practical placement
