Endangerment and protection of groundwater quality (part 1) 1300-PSHZW301
Seminar is designed to acquaint students with the hydrogeological problems, preparation to analysis and verification of scientific and archival materials. These problems mainly concern:
- groundwater threats and protection
- groundwater supply
- monitoring and protection of groundwater quality
- renewability of groundwater resources
- quantitative threats of groundwater resources,
- vulnerability of hydrogeological systems to contaminations
- dewatering of mines
- geothermal, therapeutic and thermal waters.

Learning outcomes
After completing the seminar a student:
- knows the methodology of presentation of the merits issue
- knows and characterize threats of groundwater quality
- evaluates the extend of threats and the capabilities of liquidation the results of groundwater contamination
- evaluates the quantitative threat of groundwater resources
- characterizes in regional scale the capabilities of groundwater supply
- evaluates the vulnerability of hydrogeological systems to contaminations
- knows the problems with dewatering of mines and hydrogeological problems related to the mines liquidation
- evaluates the capabilities related to geothermal waters exploitation
- knows the types of therapeutic waters and its occurrence in Poland.
Assessment criteria
Requirements for completion of the course:
- attractive visual form of presentations,
- an interesting way of transfer information related to the topic,
- activity in the discussion after the colleagues presentations.
